Website Accessibility Statement
Buckets and Barrels™ · brainbarrels.com
Thanks for visiting our website. We understand that access to any website can be challenging for some people. We have made efforts to make this website accessible within the limits of our company's size, resources, and understanding of our visitors' needs.
Accessibility on This Website
We have several features and policies intended to help you use this website comfortably:
- Plain language. We write for parents and educators, not for specialists, and we explain terms the first time we use them.
- Readable type. We use generous text size, high contrast, and typefaces chosen for legibility rather than decoration.
- Keyboard navigation. The site can be navigated without a mouse.
- Descriptive text for images. Illustrations and character art carry alternative text so that screen readers can describe them.
- Buttons that say what they do. Controls are labelled in words, and our character audio buttons carry a speaker symbol as well as text so that a child who cannot yet read can tell what they do.
- Text alternatives for our tools. Where a tool shows results visually, the same result is also given in words.
- No auto-playing sound. Audio and video play only when you choose to start them.
There are also additional aids available to you through third parties that you may find through your preferred web browser, for example Chrome accessibility extensions or Safari accessibility settings.
If you are having any difficulty navigating or using this website at all, please email us at rhonda@brainbarrels.com for assistance. We are happy to help, and we would rather hear from you than have you struggle.
Our Standard
We have made every effort possible to conform, as closely as possible, to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines ("WCAG") 2.2 Level AA published by the World Wide Web Consortium ("W3C") Web Accessibility Initiative ("WAI"). The WCAG are technical standards to improve accessibility online.
Why This Matters to Us
This website exists to explain how different thinking abilities work, largely for families whose children learn differently. It would be a poor showing to explain that and then build something those same families could not use. Accessibility here is not a legal box we tick. It is the subject matter.
If something on this site is hard to read, hard to hear, hard to click, or hard to understand, that is useful information and we want it. Tell us and we will fix it.
Accessibility Disclaimer
Although best efforts have been made to make this website accessible, please know that we may not do everything perfectly. Our goal is to provide a safe, accessible website for everyone to use and enjoy. If you have any suggestions as to how we can improve accessibility on our website, please email us at rhonda@brainbarrels.com with those suggestions. We read every one.
Third-Party Disclaimer
Our website uses third-party software or "plugins" to perform certain functions and to maintain the website and its safety. These plugins may or may not be accessible for every user. Since we do not have control over those plugins, we are unable to modify or correct them. We are not responsible for the use of, or inability to use, those plugins, since they are outside of our control.
Closed Captions
If you identify a video of ours that does not contain closed captioning, please contact rhonda@brainbarrels.com so that we may provide them to you. We will make best efforts to provide those captions to you within five (5) business days.
